Activity on Thompson Lake begins to pick up with the arrival of spring. Homeowners return to the area to “open” their cabins for the season. Many homes are not winterized so the population of the lake increases with the arrival of spring. The warmer months also attract larger numbers of vacationers to the area. Boating, swimming, and fishing are all popular activities for vacationers drawn to picturesque Thompson Lake.

Fishing Thompson Lake is well known for its excellent fishing. Several major Bass fishing tournaments are held on the lake each year. There are excellent numbers of Smallmouth and Largemouth Bass as well as Landlocked Salmon and Togue (Lake Trout). Whether you troll the lake by boat or cast a line from shore, you are sure to enjoy a day of fishing and, if you are lucky, a tasty meal! You can obtain a permit and bait at the Thompson Lake marina.
Boating Explore the lake at your leisure by canoe or kayak. Relax and enjoy the sounds of the water lapping against your paddle, the cries of the birds, the sounds of the fish jumping out of the water, and the hum of passing boats. Stop at one of the small islands for a picnic and swim. If you prefer a quicker form of travel on the lake then visit Thompson Lake marina where pontoon boats and other motorized boats are availalbe for rent.
Golfing Spring marks the beginning of golf season. There are several golf courses in the area including Bridgton Highlands Country Club, Paris Hill Country Club, and Point Sebago Golf Course. If you are a golf enthusiast, you won’t need to travel too far to enjoy this sport.
Movies There are a few movie theatres to choose from in the area. There is also a drive-in movie theatre which is a fun summer treat that you are sure to enjoy.
Shopping Shopping is a popular activity any time of year! The towns of Portland and Freeport are recommended shopping destinations. Portland's Old Port shopping district has been restored to 19th-century splendor, with cobbled streets and beautiful Victorian brick buildings housing an eclectic mix of restaurants, microbreweries, art galleries, boutiques, and specialty shops. Here you can enjoy views of Casco Bay while dining, or browse through the quaint shops selling crafts, antiques, and Maine-made products. The town of Freeport is a beautiful coastal Maine village with over 170 upscale outlets, designer shops, eclectic boutiques, B&B’s, hotels, fantastic restaurants & casual cafes. It is also home to world-famous L.L.Bean. Freeport is about 15 minutes north of Portland and Portland is about 45 minutes from the cabin.

Songo River Queen The Songo River Queen II is a replica of a Mississippi stern wheeler paddleboat. Boat trips run daily. One-hour and two-and-a-half hour trips are offered. On the scenic 2.5 hour Songo River trip, the Queen passes through two swing bridges, as well as going through the famous Songo Lock.
Mini golf Mini golf is a fun family activity during the summer. It provides a friendly form of competition. There a few mini golf courses an easy driving distance from the cabin.
Horse back riding Carousel Horse Farm is only about 10 minutes from the cabin. Trail rides are offered daily and include a trip that stops at Pear’s for an ice cream break.
Yard games Sporting equipment available for your use at the cabin includes volleyball, soccer ball and nets, badminton, bocce, croquet, and horseshoes.
Indoor Games Several indoor games are also available for your use at the cabin including Ping-Pong, Sega Video Game System, Internet Connection, Chess, Checkers, Monopoly, Risk, Stratego, Pictionary, Scatergories, cards, Cribbage, Dominoes, and a variety of puzzles.
Dining There are quite a few good restaurants in the area. If you are looking for a good seafood dinner than you might want to check out Charlie’s on the Causeway located in Naples, Maine. The food is great and you won’t be disappointed with the views of Long Lake and Little Sebago. If you are looking for a delicious breakfast than check out Sandy’s Flight Deck located in Naples. Outdoor seating is available with beautiful views of Long Lake and the Songo River Queen. If you are interested in trying locally brewed beer and enjoying a great burger than check out Bray’s Brew Pub & Eatery in Naples. They offer live entertainment on the weekends. There are quite a few other good restaurants in the area, only a few have been suggested.
